Campaigners have been door-knocking, making phone calls and hosting information stalls to protest privatisation of the state’s public disability services.
The government is expanding the delivery of disability services into the non-government sector in the roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
On Thursday protesters will hold a mock auction of public disability services before marching to Bendigo East MP and Andrews government minister Jacinta Allan’s office.
The Health and Community Services Union says jobs are at risk and workers face pay cuts if the government privatises services.
State secretary Lloyd Williams said this would have ramifications for people with a disability receiving care.
“Forcing people into the private or non-government sector with the potential for major pay cuts or long wage freezes will see many highly trained and experienced carers forced to find other work, leaving residents with profound disabilities with inexperienced casual workers to support them,” Mr Williams said.
A spokesperson for Disability Minister Martin Foley said the government would continue to liaise with relevant unions on such issues as conditions, training opportunities, and quality and standards in the transition to the NDIS.
There have been campaign actions held in Bendigo previously, most recently in April when a rally was held.
