Danielle Kelly is the woman behind PULSE, a local movement aiming to highlight the ease by which people can make the world a better place.
The project has seen flyers go up in streets and businesses in Bendigo, with suggestions of easy acts of kindness such as donating toiletries to a charity helping the homeless or inviting someone over for a meal.
The project was inspired by the Australian Red Cross’ Strategy 2020, of which one goal is to build a humanitarian movement based on voluntary service.
Mrs Kelly, a community engagement and member project officer with the Australian Red Cross, wants to encourage people to engage in voluntary service outside the bounds of structured volunteering.
“We’re stronger together as a community,” Mrs Kelly said.
“Kindness is important, and we need to see the good in everything.”
Here are some other suggestions from Mrs Kelly:
- Smile at everyone you see today
- Say hello to your neighbours
- Call an old friend
- Buy a coffee for someone in need
- Seek out volunteer opportunities
- Give coins to a busker
- Donate to a charity
- Take unwanted good to an op shop
