It was the fourth citizenship ceremony for the year with 54 people from Myanmar, Thailand, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Britain, China, Ireland, Netherlands, South Africa, Philippines, Vietnam and Micronesia becoming Australian citizens.
The citizenship ceremony brings the total number of new Australian citizens in Greater Bendigo to 178 for the year.
Clarencia Charky and Berio Clarence were two of the 54 people who became Australian citizens on Monday night. They have been in Australia for 15 years.
“I was married to an Aussie man and we came from Micronesia to Bendigo,” Ms Charky said.
“It feels like home because it makes me happy and peaceful. There is a better healthcare system education for my kids.”
Berio said he was excited to take part in the ceremony.
“I like the Australian culture. It is great to be part of a community like Bendigo,” he said.
