Browell’s two-year-old Star Hills couldn’t have been more impressive in winning on debut at Donald on Saturday.
The son of Browell’s classy mare Two Hills, Star Hills sat three-wide on the speed and then burst clear of his rivals to win the Goldacres Maiden Plate (1000m) by three lengths.
Star Hills rivals were no hacks. The Mick Price-trained short-priced favourite was coming off good trial form, while Darren Weir had two runners in the race.
Star Hill’s mother Two Hills was one of the best horses Browell has trained.
The mare won seven races, four of those on metropolitan tracks, and earned more than $350,000 in stakemoney.
While Two Hills’ pet distances were 1000m-1200m, she did run third in the Echuca Cup and Gold Bracelet at Bendigo over 1400m, so there could be scope for Star Hills to get over more ground down the track.
