Gretgrix kicked seven for the day in the 25.15 (165) to 8.5 (53) win to take his season tally to 58 and career total with the Hawks to 704.
“A great result for Gerta to get his 700th goal for the club,’’ Eaglehawk coach Josh Bowe said.
“He just keeps fronting up. Age doesn’t seem to be a factor for him. He just keeps getting the job done.”
Gretgrix is in his 10th season with the Hawks.
He started his BFNL career with 40 goals in 2006 and kicked 67 and 68 goals respectively in the club’s two premiership seasons in 2007 and 2008.
After playing for his home club Charlton in 2009, Gretgrix returned to the Borough in 2010 and kicked 82 goals.
From 2011 to 2013 he bagged totals of 86, 60 and 71 before playing with Mt Pleasant in the HDFNL in 2014.
Gretgrix has been back at Canterbury Park for the past three years where he’s arguably enjoyed career-best form.
In 2015 he kicked 82 goals, backed up with 90 in 2016 and is on track for a similar total in 2017.
In Saturday’s win over the Roos, Gretgrix found two able sidekicks in small forwards Matt Filo and Riley Saunders.
Filo bagged six goals against the team co-coached by his father, Shawn, while Saunders added four.
“Both of them have been pressing the past few weeks and it looked as though a game like that wasn’t far away,’’ Bowe said.
“Filo kicked 1.5 last week, so it was good for him to get some reward this week.
“Riley found a lot of the footy as well which was really pleasing.”
Bowe said the Hawks had played well for three quarters against the Roos.
“Overall, we played pretty well except for probably the third quarter,’’ Bowe said.
“The third quarter was pretty even on the scoreboard.”
Ben McPhee continued his standout season for the Hawks with another best on ground performance.
Filo, Saunders, Scott Hann and second-gamer Joel Mullen also impressed for the Borough.
Midfielder Jonathan Lanyon continues to carry a big load for the Roos and was once again named their best player.
Ross Turner, Jackson Fry and Alex Pearson battled hard on a tough day for Kangaroo Flat.
The Hawks go into the bye in third place, but level on points with top side Strathfieldsaye and second-placed Golden Square.
They play the Storm and Bulldogs in their next two matches.
