The Hawks were made to work hard early and held a four goal lead at quarter time.
They were able to steadily increase their lead from then on and ran out winners 56-37.
Huntly's seventh win of the season from nine games, combined with Mount Pleasant's loss to Colbinabbin, puts the Hawks two games clear of the Blues and Leitchville-Gunbower after 11 rounds.
The Grasshoppers maintained their top spot on the ladder with a 10th straight win, 57-36 over Mount Pleasant.
Only seven goals separated the teams in their earlier season contest in round two, suggesting the reigning premiers are only getting stronger at the season grows older.
Lockington-Bamawm United (4-6) snapped a run of four straight losses by defeating Elmore 43-27.
White Hills' strengthened its grip on second position with a strong 60-24 win over Heathcote, ahead of next week's clash against Huntly.
