Bendigo City looked set for its first win of the season when it opened up a 3-0 first half lead on its highly-fancied opponents.
Moreland City scored before half-time to cut Bendigo’s lead to two.
The second half was one-way traffic as the visitors scored three unanswered goals to grab a 4-3 win.
Kevin Walker, Lachlan Beever and Anthony Marafioti were the goal scorers for Bendigo City.
On a positive note it was the first time Bendigo City has scored three goals in a game this season.
Unfortunately, missing out on the points means Bendigo City is now 15 points away from avoiding relegation.
Second-last placed Werribee City drew 1-1 with Sunshine at the weekend to move to 16 points, 15 clear of Bendigo City on one.

The Bendigo City FC under-20s produced one of their best performances of the season to draw 0-0 with Moreland City.
Bendigo defended strongly to secure its third point of the season.
The Bendigo City junior teams hosted Green Gully on Saturday.
The highlight of the day was a stunning 2-1 win by the under-16s.
Nick Williams and Lewis Merriman scored for Bendigo City as it upstaged the seventh-placed Green Gully.
It was the under-16 side’s second win succession.
The under-18s suffered a 7-0 loss, while the under-15s went down 2-1. Lewis Dunne was the goal scorer for Bendigo.
Zac Marini scored for the under-13s in their 11-1 defeat.
Meanwhile, Bendigo City FC and the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League will have a gala night at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve this Friday.
Known as “Friday Night Lights”, the Bendigo City junior teams will play against the BASL representative squads.
The highlight of the night will be the game between the Bendigo City under-18s and the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League President’s XI.
The President’s XI will be made up of BASL players under the age of 21 and the team will be coached by Epsom division one coach Ryan Pollard.
“BASL are proud to showcase the talent of our BASL development squads and are thrilled to continue to build a positive pathway for soccer in Bendigo with the help from our friends at Bendigo City FC,” BDCA president Adam Woods said.
Bendigo City FC president Robyn Williams said Friday Night Lights was a wonderful showcase of junior soccer talent.
“Bendigo City are thrilled to be hosting the night once again and having the future of Bendigo’s football all there on the one night,’’ Williams said.
“We are delighted that chairman of the FFV board Kimon Taliadoris will be in attendance.”
The showcase of games will kick off at 5pm and will run through to 10pm.
It was the first time Bendigo City has scored three goals in a game this season.
