The state government looks set to reveal more information about a “creative industries hub” destined for Bendigo, almost 14 months after the project was first announced.
An information session about the proposed hub, touted to be a space for artists to meet and work, will be held next Thursday, June 15, at the Schaller Studio.
A spokesperson for creative industries minister Martin Foley said the session would “provide an opportunity to hear about the findings of a recent consultation with Bendigo’s creative community to identify local need, demand and opportunity for a creative hub”.
“The session will then be opened up to discussion about what design and programming will best realise the potential for Bendigo's creative industries hub,” the spokesperson said.
The investment was announced in the lead-up to the 2016-17 Victorian budget, part of a $115 million package Mr Foley said would develop artistic talent in film and television, gaming, fashion, music and performing arts.
But The Bendigo Advertiser reported in April several of the city’s key arts players were yet to be consulted about the proposed hub.
It is believed government agency Regional Development Victoria is responsible for some of the hub’s development, while the City of Greater Bendigo, La Trobe University and Bendigo Kangan TAFE have also been floated as potential partners.
