It was a clash of two halves with the Thunder setting up their seventh win of the season with a 5.3 (33) to 4.1 (25) first half.
That was where the scoring ended, with a strong-hard contest ensuing and neither side able to add to their tally.
A pair of goals each to Aisling Tupper and Andrea Walsh proved crucial in the eight point win.
The Thunder welcomed back their captain Leah French for her first game of the season.
The clever midfielder capped a best-on-ground performance to be one of her side's three goalkickers.
Kerryn Harrington, Abbey Hay, Grace Campbell, vice-captain Jac Louttit and Andrea Wilson were among the Thunder's best.
Meanwhile, the Thunder reserves defeated Kerang 13.11 (89) to 0.1 (1) in their Northern Country Women's League clash at Kerang.
