FALLEN trees top the list of reasons why Bendigo State Emergency Service volunteers have pulled on their orange overalls in the year to date.
The unit has attended 207 requests for assistance this so far this year.
Of those, 51 were classified as ‘tree down traffic hazard’, while a further 26 were ‘tree down’.
Building damage accounted for 36 call-outs, while flooding elicited 14 responses.
In 30 instances, Bendigo SES volunteers helped rescue people trapped in vehicles.
The unit also responded to 10 general rescue incidents and one of ‘rescue rail trapped.’
Other call-outs included an aircraft incident, an animal incident, assisting other agencies such as police and ambulance crews, fundraising and public relations.
In May alone, Bendigo SES responded to 17 requests for assistance.
The unit consists of about 60 active members, and has recently welcomed 14 new recruits.
