Acting Sergeant Brendan Keegan from Campaspe Highway Patrol said a 63-year-old man driving south on the Bendigo-Tennyson Road slowed down but failed to give way to the eastbound vehicle, driven by a 20-year-old woman on the Prairie-Tennyson Road.
The 40-year-old female passenger of the eastbound car was trapped for a short time before she was freed and taken by air ambulance to Bendigo Health.
The two drivers, and a 63-year-old female passenger of the southbound vehicle, were taken to Bendigo hospital by road.
Acting Sergeant Keegan said officers were making further enquiries, but it was likely the man would be issued an infringement notice for failing to give way.
UPDATE 12.50pm: A woman was airlifted to Bendigo Health in a stable condition following a crash at Tennyson on Tuesday morning.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the woman was trapped for a short time before she was transported to the hospital by air ambulance.
Two women and a man were taken by road to Bendigo hospital in a stable condition.
EARLIER: THE driver of a Holden Astra has had to be cut free from the car’s wreckage after it collided with another car at Tennyson this morning.
Police said the accident happened about 9.20am and an air ambulance has arrived at the scene to ferry the injured driver to hospital.
Tennyson CFA captain John Douglas told the Riverine Herald the accident happened on the corner of Prairie-Tennyson and Bendigo-Tennyson roads at 9.26.
Mr Douglas said there was a similar bad accident at the same corner just two weeks ago.
“It is a notorious spot and something has to be done about it,” he said.
“The intersection will remain closed to traffic both ways for some time.”
There are three ambulances at the scene as well as the air ambulance, along with SES personnel and police.
