Classy midfielder Kal Huntly kicked three goals for Castlemaine in a best on ground performance, while Sandhurst premiership player Braidon Blake also bagged three goals in his first senior game for the Maine.
Defender Jackson Hood, Adam Robinson and 2011 Michelsen Medal winner Wayne Schultz, in his return match for the club, also played well for the winners.
It was a pleasing performance for Maryborough. The Pies had been beaten by more than 39 points in 34 of their previous 36 games leading into round one.
Midfielders Coby Perry and Matt Johnston stood out, while Jayden Templeton bobbed up with four goals.
