MORE COVERAGE: Bendigo Easter 2017
The Bendigo Easter egg hunt was, for many people, the start of a weekend of festivities in the city and its surrounds.
Families flocked to Rosalind Park on Good Friday for the hunt, during which thousands of children discovered 85,000 chocolate eggs.
The event, at Rosalind Park, supported Vision Australia’s work to enable people with blindness and low vision to live the lives they choose.
The outfit 21-month-old Ronin Harley was sporting gained him the admiration of the crowd.
His mother, Caroline Harley, went to the effort of creating a replica of Russell Harley’s SES uniform.
She was secretly putting the reflective tape on the outfit last night.
Ronin’s gran went to the painstaking effort of embroidering his name on the bright orange overalls.
Mr Harley was pleasantly surprised by the outfit when he saw Ronin at the hunt.
“It’s fantastic,” he said.
Bendigo SES volunteer Dave Lee said the Easter egg hunt was, “one of the times when you get to don the orange overalls and you come away with a smile.”
He’s been helping with the egg hunt for about four or five years now.
“And I love it every time I come here,” he said.
“Next to Christmas, it’s the best thing.
“Just seeing the kids’ faces light up when they find the eggs… it’s fantastic.”
He said he always keeps a few extra eggs in his pockets, for the children who might not be so fortunate in their discoveries, to ensure they don’t leave empty handed.
Other Bendigo Easter Festival highlights include the torchlight lantern procession and fireworks and the gala parade.
