It’s all go in Benders this weekend, but we note a curious juxtaposition in Rosalind Park.

This week, we had the Vision Australia Easter egg hunt, during which about 3000 little tackers scrambled in piles of straw looking for about 85,000 Cadbury Easter eggs. Nearby is the already much-talked-about House of Mirrors, which is being advertised with the following blurb: “Constructed with 40 tonnes of steel and 15 tonnes of mirrors … lose yourself in endless reflections. … an authentic sense of amusement – a thrilling blend of delight and fear. Getting out is an art.” We wonder if they did a kiddy head count after the egg scramble.

You know Down The Mall loves dipping its toe in Bendigo history, and once again, it has found gold.
The Bendigo Independent newspaper of Tuesday, August 25, 1903 had a running coverage of the case of Doyle v Doyle, in which one mother had taken her mother-in-law to court for saying “nasty things” about the paternity of her children.
Lawyer L. Murphy, said: “When this case was opened a few days ago, the bench advised my client to get a lawyer. The complainant told her to go to the devil – and she came to me [laughter].”

News companies should be banned from publishing weather forecasts, no matter how official their sources. We quickly say here that over the years, the Addy has been afflicted by the weather story jinx like any other publication, but this time it was (phew) someone else’s problem.
One of our local media chums and competitors ran a story last week, headed: “Cool and dry days ahead”.
Over the next two days, we officially had nearly 50mm of rain – with 36 mms on one day alone. That’s 66 per cent more than our April average in two days. You wouldn’t read about it.

Just to test this jinx, DTM notes that this weekend’s weather forecast for Bendigo is: 21 with cloud increasing today, 21 and cloudy tomorrow and 19 and sunny on Easter Monday. No rain is predicted – so bring an umbrella.
