Leading senior constable David Hockey said the boy was trying to cross the road when he stepped out in front of the slow-moving ute and was knocked to the ground, sustaining a minor injury to his wrist, at about 2.30pm.
Leading Senior Constable Hockey said the boy was not taken to hospital and the driver of the ute would not be charged, but reminded drivers to watch out for children during the school holidays.
“Bear in mind it is the school holiday period and there are children out on the roads that don’t have the greatest road sense or road experience and judgement can be lacking,” he said.
“In this instance we have gotten away with a very minor injury.”
