Taking the helm as coach of the Fighting Miners is Matt Boyle, while the club’s new captain is Blake Theunissen.
Off-field the Fighting Miners also have a new president in Greg Spedding, who has taken over from the long-serving Ian Dyett.
Among the squad for 2017 is a number of new recruits, including Oliver Burgen, Joeli Ragigi, Jake Follet, Marchello Van Zyl and Nafetalaimai Li.
The Fighting Miners’ first game of the season will be a home clash against Ballarat at Epsom Huntly-Reserve from 3pm.
Also competing in the eight-team division two of the VRU this year is Eltham, Melton, Maroondah, Geelong, Shepparton and Kiwi Hawthorn.
