The BASL has this season welcomed four new clubs from the Goulburn North East Football Association.
Joining the expanded competition in the men’s division will be Shepparton, Shepparton South, Shepparton United – which won last year’s GNEFA grand final – and Tatura, taking the number of teams to 11.
Shepparton South and Shepparton United, last year’s GNEFA champions, have also joined the women’s competition, lifting the number of teams to 10.
The BASL reigning men’s champions are Eaglehawk, which has the bye in round one, while the defending women’s champions are Epsom.
Epsom’s build-up to the men’s season included playing three games as part of the Westfield FFA Cup last month, defeating Waverely 12-0 and Gisborne 4-2 in the qualifying rounds, before going down 3-2 to Dandenong South in round one.
