Senior constable Nick Hakes said the man was walking home with his partner at about 11.45pm when the two men yelled insults at them from a passing car near the roundabout on the corner of Short and Hargreaves streets.
The car then stopped and the two men got out and assaulted the man, causing him to lose consciousness, before he was taken to hospital as a result of his injuries.
The men drove away before police arrived.
The vehicle is described as a silver or white late-model, dual-cab ute, possibly a Nissan Navara with at least two female passengers in the back at the time.
The first man police are looking for is described as caucasian, about 175 centimetres tall and in his late 20s or early 30s, with a “very skinny” build and short blonde hair.
The second man is described as caucasian with tanned skin, about 185 centimetres tall with dark facial features and short dark hair.
Both men were dressed in formal wear at the time.
Police are reviewing closed-circuit television footage from the area and request that the two men, or anyone who believes they know who they are, contact Senior Constable Hakes on 5448 1300, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
