Racing in the pre-veteran class, Gilligan achieved a time of 11.75 seconds in the first of the 100m heats.
The Bendigo Harriers athlete broke the Centre and Residential record of 11.76 for the 35-plus division held by South Bendigo’s Brendan Ward since 2007.
A great afternoon by 39-year-old Gilligan included season bests of 1.75 metres to win the high jump, and four metres to be number one at pole vault.
South Bendigo’s Teleah Hayes added another record to this season’s collection.
The 19-year-old completed the 1500m in a time of 4:31.67 which broke the Centre’s open and under-20 record held by clubmate Clare McKechnie since 2003.
The meeting drew athletes from Wodonga, Wendouree, Whittlesea, Ringwood and Sandringham.
There were 70 season best performances racked up at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex.
Eaglehawk’s Asher Jones was fastest in the 100m in 11.74 seconds and won the shot put on a season best mark of 12.17 metres and the long jump, 6.07m.
Fastest in the women’s 100m was Eaglehawk’s Laura Kadri.
Kye Jenkyn from Bendigo Harriers won the first of the 1500m heats in a season best time of 4:09.16.
A staggering tally of 14 athletes set their season best times in Saturday’s 1500m duels.
The first of the men’s 400m ended in a closely-fought win by South Bendigo’s Jake Hilson, 50.42, from Bendigo Harriers Ben Powell, 50.72.
Glenhuntly’s Nigel Preston won the 3000m in a time of 9:35.93, and Ringwood’s Carly McDade starred in the 2000m steeplechase.
South Bendigo’s Emma Berg warmed up for the nationals by winning the shot put on 13.63m.
