Everett, racing off 70 seconds, produced a well-timed run to defeat David Heislers and Craig Green in the 1500m event.
Everett ran an impressive time of 4 minutes and 38 seconds.
“Craig (Green) my coach and I were off the same mark and the plan was to stick together and then see what we had left with a lap to go,’’ Everett said.
“It worked out well.”
Everett only took up running this season and the move has paid dividends.
The 17-year-old finished on top of the distance series aggregate table and finished fourth in the final.
“I did Little Athletics for a year about a decade ago, but then played Aussie Rules,’’ Everett said.
“I gave up Aussie Rules to give athletics a go and I feel as though it was a good choice.”
