Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Stephen King said the rain was likely going to fizzle out slightly by the time it reached Bendigo, but the city could be in for one to three millimetres, most likely in the early hours of Sunday morning.
There was also a slight chance of a thunderstorm, Mr King said, which if it eventuated, could bring falls of around 10 millimetres.
If it does rain, it will be the first time in nearly three weeks that Bendigo has seen any precipitation.
Castlemaine is also looking at the possibility of early showers, as are Maryborough and Kyneton.
Temperatures across the region on Sunday will range from 27 degrees in Kyneton to 30 degrees in Echuca.
