Colbinabbin Recreation Reserve will on Saturday be the scene of a community’s effort to support one of its own.
Family and friends of Lucinda Ryan have organised a Lap-A-Thon in support of the Melanoma Institute Australia.
Lucinda, a mother of two, grew up in Colbinabbin and spent the first 18 years of her life in the central Victorian town.
She is receiving treatment for stage four melanoma, following an ongoing battle with melanoma for more than 10 years.
“I have a great life, an amazing husband, two beautiful children and friends who make me laugh,” Lucinda said.
“I do not need sympathy – I just need time to enjoy these things and I am going to do my very best to see that the treatment available now and into the future will give me this.”
She has raised more than $40,000 for the Melanoma Institute Australia in the past two years, to help achieve that aim.
Lucinda, her husband Anthony and their two children have been living in Western Australia for seven years.
On Saturday, four of her friends in Wongan Hills are hosting a Lap-A-Thon.
Her ‘Colbo family’ is supporting the initiative by hosting the sister event in Colbinabbin.
A video cross to Lucinda is likely following the award presentations at 2.30pm on Saturday.
Online registrations for the event are open until 10am on Friday.
Registrations and participant check-in take place from 9.45am – 11am on Saturday.
