The Castlemaine reserve had the first sod of the new upgrade turned yesterday with Mount Alexander Shire mayor Sharon Telford saying it was a major investment in the shire’s sporting facilities.
“It’s fantastic to see the works underway,” Ms Telford said.
“The acrylic surface offers players a superior surface grip, and new lighting will allow teams to play and train in the evening.”
Three of the netball courts will be asphalt and be ready for use in April while another three high standard netball courts will have an acrylic playing surface.
Existing netball courts along McGrath Street will be re-purposed as a new carpark.
The project is the realisation of sustained effort by members of the Wesley Hill Management Committee to work with Council toward this vision.
