Kyneton leading senior constable Carl Dalton said the green Ford Falcon was travelling north on the Calder Freeway at Carlsruhe when it left the road at about 10.30pm.
Leading Senior Constable Dalton said the driver then tried to overcorrect and the car struck a barrier in the middle of the road.
The car’s 48-year-old female driver and a 49-year-old male passenger were trapped in the vehicle before being freed by State Emergency Service crews.
The driver and another 44-year-old male passenger were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital by road, while the other man was flown to the Alfred hospital by air ambulance.
The 49-year-old suffered head and shoulder injuries but all three were in a stable condition.
All three occupants of the vehicle were from the Geelong area, and Leading Senior Constable Dalton said the cause of the crash was still being investigated.
