The 30-year-old joins the Superoos from the Western Magpies, where he played in two senior premierships in 2006 and 2008.
Regarded as the best swingman in the AFL Queensland competition, Scott adds some class and depth to the Superoos’ squad.
“Luke is a well-known player in Queensland and (Mitiamo big man) Mick I’Anson had played against him up there,’’ Mitiamo coach Justin Maddern said.
“Luke played with (former Mitiamo player) Jimmy Rozynski in Queensland and Jimmy was going to come back to us this year, but he hurt his knee. Jimmy was the one that got us onto Luke and it eventuated from that. Luke sort of fell into our lap, which was nice.
“He’s been ranked in the top 10 players in the competition and he knows his way around the footy field.
“He is a genuine utility… he can play anywhere. That gives us some more flexibility and we can just play Luke in a spot where we’re struggling.”
The departures of key midfielders Doug Thomas and Tyson Sidebottom threatened to hurt the Superoos’ chances of returning to the LVFNL top three, but Scott’s arrival caps a fruitful recruiting spree for Mitiamo.
The Superoos have raided the Kangaroo Flat Roos in the BFNL, with Jarryd Wiegard, Matt Wiegard and Ash Benbow to play for Mitiamo in 2017.
Toby Cocks, a running defender from Hampden league club Portland, also looks like a more than handy pick-up for the Superoos.
“I played a lot of footy with the boys from Kangaroo Flat a few years ago and they’ve now got 150 to 200 games of experience under their belt,’’ Maddern said.
“They’re going to be valuable acquisitions for our club. Matt will play down back for us, while Jarryd and Ash can play a variety of roles.
“Losing two really quality midfielders in Dougie Thomas and Tyson Sidebottom was a big loss, but it has allowed us to work on our depth and we’re using that as a positive.
“A big emphasis for us was recruiting players who could play multiple roles and we think we’ve achieved that.”
