With the leg-spinner’s haul of 6-26 against White Hills on Saturday, Taylor has now taken at least five wickets in each of his past four games.
Before Taylor’s hot run of form with the ball, according to BDCA historian Darren Rodda the last player to have taken at least five wickets in four consecutive games was another leg-spinner, Sandhurst’s legenary Frank Watts in the 1961-62 season.
Rodda estimates the feat of taking five-wicket hauls in four or more consecutive games has only been done about 10 times in the history of the competition, which is more than 120 years.
Taylor’s 6-26 against the Demons follows on from 5-58 against Bendigo, 6-78 against Bendigo United and 9-66 against Strathfieldsaye in his previous three games.
The BDCA record for the most consecutive games of taking five or more wickets is held by Laurie Meyer, who did it six times in a row during the 1944-45 season for Colts.
Meanwhile, in another historical highlight on Saturday’s start to round 13, Golden Square left-hander Scott Johnson became just the sixth BDCA player to reach 9000 first XI runs.
Johnson’s knock of 96 against Huntly-North Epsom lifted his career tally to 9072.
Johnson surpassed Max Taylor’s 9057 during his innings to move to No.5 on the BDCA’s all-time runs list.
