Elvis: An American Trilogy sees Vic Trevino, Gino Monopoli and Steve Michaels channel Elvis through the star’s career as a young performer in the 1950s, a movie star in the 1960s and an icon in the 1970s.
“In the ‘50s he was starting out and was brand new. The sound he was creating was brand new. It wasn’t music that white people did at time,” Trevino, who plays 1950s Elvis, said.
“By that (jumpsuit) time (in the 1970s), Elvis had been in the business for 14 years. He was a seasoned performer who got better at his craft with experience.”
Trevino said a lot of Elvis’ hits would be played as well as some lesser heard tunes.
“I like to do a few more different ones from that younger era of music but we definitely do classics like Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock,” he said.
Elvis: An American Trilogy is on at The Capital in Bendigo on March 30.
