BENDIGO runner Tom Noden has notched his first victory in open competition on the Victorian Athletic League circuit.

Noden, 19, won last Sunday’s Open 550m as part of the VAL’s Geelong meeting.
Racing off a handicap of 66m, Noden won in a time of 1:11.690, finishing ahead of David Haigh (63m, 1:11.777).
Noden – a member of the South Bendigo Athletics Club – qualified for the 550m final after running second in his heat in 1:11.832.
The field for the final also included another Bendigo competitor, Lonain Burnett.
Burnett, racing off 36m, finished fifth in the field of 10 in a time of 1:12.878.
The feature event of the day, the 100m Geelong Gift, was won by Ballarat’s Tom Moloney.
