Plan approval a disgrace
A decision by VCAT to approve a 34-lot subdivision in Kangaroo Flat will and only should be seen as a total disgrace.

The land off the service road is a natural watercourse and animal sanctuary with hundreds of trees, many being over a hundred years old.
This land provides protection against more erosion to the creek, as well as some endangered wildlife species.
In late 2016, our councillors voted to put through a rescission motion and vote against this proposed subdivision.
At this meeting they also vowed to fight any attempt to overturn their decision all the way.
Our council does have options and can fight this decision in court and so they should, or are our council’s decisions meaningless and now having councillors no longer viable or relevant?
This subdivision with its narrow one road in and out, small blocks and no parking has already been described as a potential future slum and death trap.
The existing residents have never been shown any consideration through this process and yet an already suspect developer with no interest except his profits are once again placed above those who matter the most, the people.

Put brakes on speed idea
Regarding your story on speed reductions (“Council considering 40km/h limit for CBD”, Bendigo Advertiser, February 10), reductions are not necessary.
Only law-abiding citizens obey road laws. If you make 60km/h streets 40km/h, hoons and other recalcitrant law breakers will always disobey any speed sign.
Also any police blitz is lost on most young people because generally most of their news and information is not sourced from mainstream news bulletins and radio sources, but social media.
Please stop making life more difficult for law-abiding drivers.

Bullying out of control
In response to the Web Words contributions by Kathy Ayers and Machaela McGillivray (Bendigo Advertiser, March 1), they are absolutely right.
As Kathy Ayers put it, schools do sweet stuff all to prevent it.
Provided that you fit in, don't make waves, conform to sometimes unrealistic tasks, reviews etc you are on your own.
A lot of this bullying comes not only from students, but from people in leadership positions.
There is no honesty or respect towards students and staff in a lot of cases are swept under the carpet.
Don't go ruffling feathers creating any problems for them.
There is no support from leaders, departments, politicians and the unions who don't stand up for the members who pay their wages, and in some cases the media in general are not quick to jump on this inappropriate behavior.
We are continually witnessing an increase of bullying, corruption from all aspects of departments and all levels of government that people in positions of authority and power eagerly getting their noses in the trough or jumping on the gravy train, taking what is not legally theirs at the expense of the people they are supposedly representing.
Enough is a enough. It's time for people to take a stand against this behavior.
Where it was once said we were a country that lived off the sheep's back and we were the lucky country, sadly not anymore.
Why? Because of the irresponsible people we have in control and leadership of this country.
