Forest Fire Management Victoria Murray Goldfields district manager Paul Bates said the region needed about 40 to 50 millimetres of rain to bring fuel moisture content up to desirable levels for planned burning, which he believed would take another three to four weeks.
But preparation work is already under way.
Site scheduled for planned burns include Eaglehawk and Long Gully, Castlemaine, Wedderburn, Kamarooka and Maryborough.
Mr Bates said mid-autumn’s stable weather generally meant good conditions for planned burns.
The burns will be conducted with the CFA.
