Each councillor made the declaration to council chief executive Darren Fuzzard at Tuesday’s council meeting.
The code includes statements of commitment by councillors to the community, standards of behaviour, decision making processes, prohibited conduct and the roles of councillors and the mayor.
Mount Alexander Shire mayor Sharon Telford said it is an important commitment for councillors.
“Councillors have worked on a series of principles to outline what we stand for, and how we will work together,” she said.
“Some examples include engaging and listening to others, allocating the right resources to get the job done, as well as doing what we say we will and striving to make a positive contribution.”
The Local Government Act 1989 requires council to review the Councillor Code of Conduct and adopt the amended code within four months of a general election.
The Code of Conduct was developed through several workshops between councillors and staff to ensure it reflected the standards of behaviour that councillors expect to be held to.
