Mentors would meet with second year medicine students about once or twice a month for coffee, or a similar activity.
In most cases, the university said the students were new to the cities they would be living and working in.
Ideal mentor applicants would be community members separate from the university and medical profession.
The program runs from March – November.
The university said the community mentor and engagement initiative had been run successfully at its Shepparton and Wangaratta campuses.
It is consequently being expanded to the Rural Clinical School campuses in Bendigo and Ballarat.
Bendigo campus students attend tutorials and teaching sessions at the Monash University Regional Clinical School at Bendigo Health.
For more information about the mentor program, or to get involved, call research assistant Mia Peardon on 5823 4564 or Rebecca Caygill 5823 4596.
