Kevin and Janetta will join a number of other every day Australians as they traverse the globe for Channel 9’s new show Travel Guides.
The show see ordinary Australians travel to exotic places where they take on the job of a travel critic.
While for some it might be paradise, for others it’s hell. All participants deliver a no-holds-barred review of their travel trip.
Former airline employee Janetta and part-time travel writer Kevin have traveled extensively during their 30 year marriage.
Before booking holidays they heavily research their destinations to pick the best hotel, resturants and experiences they can.
But Travel Guides doesn’t follow their pre-travel routine.
“We had no say in where we went at all. We didn’t know until we got to the airport,”
“The only clue we got was what the temperature range of where we were going.”
“One of the things the producers asked before we went was what we like and don’t like when travelling. WE certainly had a share of both ends of the travel markets.”
In promotions for the show they are listed as married “holiday snobs” who are high-end and discerning.
“We certainly like to travel to what we can afford. When we retired and made our budget, out first item on th list was travel followed by wine,” Kevin said.
The retired Maldon couple were selected from among 100,000 applicants.
Other guides on the show include a trio of flight attendant friends, a bargain-hunting family, two Queensland hippies, a big spending family and identical twins who have never left Australia.
“We saw it advertised on in November, 2015. It said if you can give up three months of your life and like to travel,” Janetta said.
“We travel a lot but spend time researching our trip and a great deal of time making sure to read all the reviews.
“There was one country we hadn't been to before that the show took us to and we did some things that were beyond our wildest dreams and some that were not enjoyable.”
Kevin and Janetta will host friends on Tuesday night while the episode airs.
“We haven’t seen any vision of the show. Depending on how it pans out we might be leaving town,” Janetta said.
Travel Guides premieres on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at 9pm on Channel 9.
