SCOTTISH clans from across Australia will descend on Bendigo on Saturday for the city’s annual Celtic celebration.
Organisers of Scots Day Out expect about 5000 people to revel in traditional fair, including pipe bands, highland games, whisky and haggis.
The event, in its fifth year, is a chance for Bendigo’s Scottish descendants to celebrate their roots and reconnect with other clans.
Hosted at Rosalind Park, the festivities will be overseen by Neil Clark who is chieftain – a symbolic head of a clan – for this year’s event.
Mr Clark, born in Dumfries, Scotland, said the event was about spreading goodwill among Scottish descendants and celebrating the cultural nuances Scottish people have brought to the city.
Event director Chris Earl said several hundred expatriates resided in Bendigo, while others were descendants of Scots who arrived during the Gold Rush.
The event begins at 10am on Saturday, and concludes with Scottish heritage tours at Bendigo cemetery on Sunday morning.
