VicRoads warns of potential for ‘sticky roads’

VicRoads is also warning drivers that vehicle breakdowns are more likely to occur during the hot weather. 

“When travelling on the road network in hot weather, please be patient and check that you have enough oil and water in your car before setting off on your journey,” a spokesperson said.

“If your vehicle does break down, where possible, stop or park the vehicle in the shade and avoid parking on long dry grass, as this could be a potential fire hazard.”

Drivers are reminded to observe conditions and possible speed limit changes with road bleeding is more likely to occur on recently sealed roads.

VicRoads said this was “unavoidable in extreme heat”.

“VicRoads is prepared for this each year, and can use tools such as water carts to cool the road should it be needed,” a spokesperson said.

“In some circumstances where road bleeding occurs, lower temporary speed limits may apply for safety purposes, and drivers are asked to slow down and always drive to the conditions.” 

Drivers are encouraged to follow any traffic management or warning signs, and are encouraged to contact VicRoads on 13 11 70 if they see any road damage that may be a safety risk.
