O’Keefe is one of 13 players selected in the Victoria Country team that will compete at the School Sport Australia 15-and-Under Cricket Championships.
The championships will be played in Brisbane from March 25 to April 1.
A Victoria Metropolitan team will also compete at the championships.
All-rounder O’Keefe has previously played for the Victorian Primary School under-12 team and represented Northern Rivers at under-14 and 16 level, including state championships last month.
The Year 10 student is likely to bat at No.4 or 5 for the 15-and-under team, and also bowl left-arm medium-pace.
“I’m really excited to be part of the team… it should be a great experience,” O’Keefe said on Thursday.
O’Keefe – who turned 15 on Thursday – is coached at BSE by Dennis McCormick as part of the cricket component of the Athlete Development Program.
“I’ve had Ryan for a couple of years and he’s just wonderful to coach and is coming along really well with his cricket,” McCormick said.
O’Keefe plays his club cricket with Kangaroo Flat in the Bendigo District Cricket Association.
He made his first XI debut for the Roos this season and after five innings at the top level has a highest score of 32 n.o made against Golden Square.
