Victorians are being warned to look after themselves and each other, as heatwave conditions continue across the state.

Heat health alerts have been issued today for all northern sections of the state, including the Mallee, north central, northern country, and Wimmera regions.
Bendigo is headed for a top of 40 degrees today along with Redesdale and Maryborough; Castlemaine is headed for 38 degrees, Kyneton 37 and Echuca 42.
Further north, Birchip and Kerang are expecting a maximum of 43 degrees, Swan Hill 44 and Mildura 45.
State response controller Steve Warrington said emergency services were on standby and ready to respond to both fire and heat related incidents
“We have 58 aircraft on standby today, and we are paying particular attention to dry grasslands close to urban fringes, which have the potential to move rapidly,” he said.
“If you live in an urban fringe area and a fire starts, remember the safest option is to move two streets back.
“We also have a number of outdoor events happening across the state, including the Southern 80 water and ski racing event in Echuca-Moama.
“It’s important that people attending these events know the fire risk, keep hydrated with water, avoid sun exposure and ensure any campfires are completely extinguished before they leave.”
State health commander Paul Holman urged Victorians to be prepared for the hot weather by making sure they were hydrated and watch their alcohol intake in the heat.
“Heat is one of the biggest impacts on our communities,” he said.
“There are simple precautions everyone can take to minimise the impact of heat, such as reduce your activity, stay hydrated, check on family and friends and never leave kids or pets in hot cars.”
Hot conditions are expected to continue across central Victoria tomorrow, as the mercury nudges 40-plus degrees in some parts.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a top of 39 degrees in Bendigo and Redesdale tomorrow, 42 in Echuca, 38 in Maryborough, 37 in Castlemaine and Kyneton.
Further north, Birchip is headed for a top of 39, Kerang 41 and Swan Hill 42. Mildura is in for 44 degrees – one degree cooler than today’s forecast of 45.
Ambulance Victoria regional health commander Tony Walsh urged people to take steps to keep themselves cool.
“People aged over 65, the very young, and those with pre-existing medical conditions are most at risk during periods of extreme heat,” Mr Walsh said.
“If this sounds like a neighbour or relative, please check in with them today and tomorrow to make sure that they are OK.”
Mr Walsh said there were simple precautions everyone could take to minimise the impact of the heat.
“Avoid being outside, reduce your activity, drink plenty of water – even if you don't feel thirsty – and take a bottle with you to keep hydrated.
“Never leave kids, adults or pets in hot cars – the temperature inside a parked car can double within minutes.
“Seek out air-conditioned buildings, draw your blinds, use a fan, take cool showers and dress in light and loose clothing made from natural fabrics.”
