Local heroes among the Dirt Modifieds include the Tindal family, Craig Wicks and Steve Hopkins, while the Hot Rods from right around Victorian will compete in the annual Ray Welsh Memorial to honour a departed legend of the class and speedway in general.
Dirt Modified competition is run with a maximum 361ci capacity with 11.5 to 1 compression or with the American Dirtcar Spec 358 engines.
The front wheels are open and the car set up generally sees the front left tyres lift of the ground as they turn sideways through corners at either end of the track as the chassis contorts a little as the rear wheels gain traction.
The local contingent of competitors are likely to have their hands full with Mornington’s Daryl Hickson, Corowa’s Steve Milthorpe and south east Melbourne racer Lloyd Hobson all set on taking victory at Rushworth.
Dean West, last year’s Ray Welsh Memorial winner, leads the nominations in the SDAV Hot Rod division and is looking to go back to back in the memorial and for a third time since its inception in 2013.
