Sun sets on solar rebate
A question to the thousands of locals who installed roof solar panels to gain credit against their electricity bills; are you aware that the Labor state government has withdrawn their payment for each kWh and you are now left with no way to recoup the thousands of dollars you spent?

You were never told the support for the transitional feed-in would be only temporary.

Terrifying turn of events
Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning refugees from entering the United States for 120 days.
Syrians have been banned indefinitely, and asylum-seekers from six Muslim-majority countries have been barred entry for at least the next three months.
In reference to this, the comments from President Trump's adviser, Kellyanne Conway – "get used to it", "shock to the system" and "he's just getting started" – are abhorrent and frightening. This administration can only be likened to kids in a sweet shop.

Hospital a credit to all
Congratulations to Bendigo Health Chief Executive Officer John Mulder and all hospital staff for your incredible effort to transition to the new hospital.
Months of planning and a long-held ambition to provide our community with access to the very best health care and latest medical technology have finally been realised. Moving 170 patients and all hospital services requires incredible planning and your team is to be commended for smoothly managing the transition.
Successfully opening the doors to the new hospital has seen Bendigo become a premier health centre for regional Victoria.
Residents of Greater Bendigo and central Victoria will have access to such facilities as a state-of-the-art integrated cancer centre, psychiatry services, a parent-infant unit and 11 new operating theatres.
The new hospital is a building we can all be proud of. We are truly fortunate to have access to such a remarkable building and the services it provides. The new hospital enhances our overall liveability and it is wonderful to know world-class health care is on our doorstep should we need it.

Spending unsustainable
I would like to respond to a letter by Michelle Goldsmith (“Councillors deserve more respect for contribution”, January 26).
This whole article has been written and based on no more than support for some of those newly elected left-wing councillors and bears no resemblance to facts and is completely based on superstitions and biased opinion. We have seen well-written and researched articles on council wages and entitlements recently that state facts that simply can't be disputed. We all know our councillors volunteer to offer themselves for election and to contribute, so it is a ridiculous assumption to draw and a leftist view of their entitlements to that of corporate Australia.
We can choose if we support a company or not and their wages are paid from their own profits, and yet we all pay the cost and excesses of our councillors and staff.
Perhaps it would be prudent to suggest some light reading – or what I call a horror story – our budget document and see the hundreds of thousands of dollars that have been wasted.
A wage bill that would drive any private company to the wall and a debt level that is unsustainable and the highest in our city’s history. The excesses of this current council are already on display so I do question some of our councillors as to who are they are really committed to. We continue to see more of the past council’s agenda accepted and the excesses continued to be accepted and funded by ratepayers.
