All funds raised from the sausage sizzles at Bendigo’s two Bunnings Warehouses will go towards CFA brigades and SES units.
Volunteers from the Harcourt Fire Brigade were on hand at the Kangaroo Flat store to answers questions and offer advice on the current fire season, while also helping to promote the cause.
Brigade captain Tyrone Rice said it was important day to raise funds for local brigades and to speak to people about fire safety.
“We had a busy fire period recently, with fires caused by lawnmowers and a minibike,” he said.
“Harcourt also supported a strike team at Bridgewater and Ultima.
“Up north, we’ve had a few fires caused by harvesters.”
Long grass growth from a wet winter and spring made for a more dangerous fire season than usual – a situation which the Harcourt brigade was actively monitoring.
At the Epsom store, volunteers from the Oscar 1 mine rescue team and District 2 HQ brigades are helping to man the sausage sizzle.
The fundraiser runs for all of Saturday. All funds raised will be divided up for volunteer brigades.
