SOME of the best young basketballers from across the state will converge on Bendigo from Thursday for the three-day Bendigo Skin Ski and Surf Junior Classic.

More than 5000 people including players, parents and coaches will be in the city for the annual tournament.
More than 200 teams from across Victoria will compete at the event, including teams from Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong, Horsham, Mildura, Wangaratta, Hamilton, Wodonga and Echuca.
The age groups playing in the classic range from under-12 through to under-20, with matches played at venues across the city, including Bendigo Stadium, Weeroona College, Girton Grammar, Bendigo South East College, St Liborius Primary School, Eaglehawk Secondary College and Maiden Gully PS.
The tournament has proved to be a breeding ground for NBL and WNBL stars. Bendigo’s greatest basketball products Kristi Harrower, Glen Saville, Emily McInerny, Matt Campbell and Aaron Trahair all played in the tournament as juniors.
The Bendigo Junior Braves will be out to win titles on their home floor. Bendigo’s best chances of winning should come in the under-14 and 16 girls divisions and the under-16 boys.
Play starts at 8.50am on Thursday. Preliminary round matches are played on Thursday and Friday, with grand finals scheduled for Saturday.
