AN Eaglehawk woman who assaulted her then-boyfriend and smashed windows in his house after he received a Tinder message from another woman will spend eight months in jail.
Melissa Sloan, 36, planned to appeal her jail term in the Bendigo County Court on Wednesday, but withdrew when the judge raised the prospect of increasing her sentence.
Her jail term will be followed by a 12-month community corrections order. She was charged with 28 offences.
Before and after the attack on her boyfriend, Sloan committed a range of thefts on businesses and homes across Bendigo.
On September 21 in 2015, with a co-accused, she stole $178 worth of perfume from Chemist Warehouse on Mitchell Street.
In December 2015 Sloan entered an unlocked car in front of a house on Averys Road, California Gully. After stealing two GPS devices, an iPod and wallet, Sloan found spare keys to the car and drove it into Bendigo.
She parked the $75,000 Land Cruiser on Queen Street, where it was spotted by the victim.
Police were called and Sloan was arrested. She told officers: “I couldn’t be f***ed walking, to be honest”.
The next month, she stole an iPhone 6 Plus from the counter of a beauty salon on High Street.
While on bail for the offences, Sloan stole $38 in alcohol from BWS Lansell Square on June 6, 2016.
She entered another unlocked car on Bob Street, White Hills, on June 14, taking a wallet and camera valued at $285.
Sloan attempted to withdraw cash using a credit card from the wallet, and then purchased $59 in alcohol using PayPass.
On July 14, she stole $67 in alcohol from Liquorland McIvor Road. She also stole more perfume from UFS Eaglehawk, and groceries from IGA Eaglehawk.
Sloan was charged with assault and intentionally damaging property for an incident in White Hills on July 30, in which she attacked her then-boyfriend after he received a Tinder message.
The pair were drinking together when the message came through, “enraging” Sloan and causing her to punch the man to the face.
She then smashed multiple windows in the house before fleeing when police were called.
Sloan returned soon after to continue to smash windows and other items. Police came back to the house and arrested Sloan.
She kicked a police officer and resisted arrest, requiring pepper spray.
Sloan served 100 days in custody before she was sentenced.
