In what was Gabe Richards’ 250th WNBL match, the Fire spoiled the Spirit star’s milestone with an 87-67 win in Townsville.
The Fire never gave the Spirit a look-in after racing to a 25-12 lead at quarter-time.
Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe led the Spirit scoring with 15 points, while Blake Dietrick added 14 and Kelsey Griffin 13.
Mia Murray poured in 30 points for the two-time defending champions Fire, while superstar Suzy Batkovic combined 19 points with 14 rebounds.
Bendigo must back-up against Canberra in Canberra tonight.
