There were plenty of highlights in the 11th round of the Athletics Victoria Shield competition at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex.
The twilight meet drew plenty of competitors to the Flora Hill track.
South Bendigo’s Emma Berg and Ron Nancarrow, and Eaglehawk’s Leah Langtree were in hot form at discus.
Berg’s best of 40.02m is a Centre record for the under-16 age group.
An Athletics Bendigo life member, Nancarrow surpassed his record feat for the 80-plus class set earlier this season as he hurled the discus 16.46 metres.
Langtree achieved a best mark of 27.29m to hold the 40-plus record.
On the track, Eaglehawk’s Geoff Major completed the 1500m walk in 12 minutes 29.67 seconds to hold the 80-plus record.
A superb season for South Bendigo’s Teleah Hayes rolled on as she clocked a time of 9:49.76 in the 3000m to now hold the open and under-20 record.
Stand-out performers from Eaglehawk included Niah Langtee, 200m; Amanda Heard 3000m walk, Asher Jones, 60m; Denise Snyder, 100m hurdles and triple jump; Olivia Graham, hammer.
Stars from South Bendigo included Jake Hilson, 200m, Zahra Hayes, 1500m walk; Abbey Hromenko, 90m hurdles.
Lonain Burnett from Bendigo Harriers was fastest in the 800m as clubmates Jalen Hoskin, 60m; Liam Schreck, 110m hurdles; Mackenzie Cooper, discus and hammer; Kyle Murphy, high jump and triple jump also shone.
Glenhuntly’s Nigel Preston powered to victory in the 3000m in 9:42.57.
Another twilight meet will be run this Saturday at LUBAC in Retreat Road from 4.30pm. Events in the 12th round of AV Shield include sprint hurdles, 2000m walk, 100m, 400m, 1500m, steeplechase, 4 x 10m relay, shot put, javelin, pole vault, and long jump.
