VICTORIA has finished third at the Australian Country Cricket Championships after rounding out its campaign with a win over Western Australia on Wednesday.

In the last of its 10 games played in Wollongong over the past eight days, Victoria – which features Sandhurst’s Taylor Beard, Bendigo’s Nathan Fitzpatrick and Strathdale’s Cameron Taylor – defeated Western Australia by five wickets.
Taylor took 2-41 off 10 overs as Western Australia made 7-210 off its 50 overs batting first.
Victoria – which finished with a 6-4 record – answered with 5-211, winning with 13 balls to spare.
Queensland won the country title.
Tournament stats:
Cameron Taylor – 117 runs @ 23.4; 13 wickets @ 21.8.
Taylor Beard – 140 runs @ 28.0; 5 wickets @ 15.8.
Nathan Fitzpatrick – 4 runs @ 4.0; 6 wickets @ 19.8.
Meanwhile, Golden Square’s Zane Keighran was in action for the Australian under-16 team against Pakistan’s under-16 side in a game that started late Wednesday afternoon.
Pakistan was batting first at Dubai in game two of the three-match under-16 series.
And in the Victorian State Championships, Northern Rivers’ under-18 team remained unbeaten after three rounds with an 11-run win over Metropolitan West at Princes Park.
It was also day one of the under-16 and under-14 female state championships.
Northern Rivers’ under-16s split its two 25-over matches 1-1, while the under-14s won both their games against Metropolitan Northern and Metropolitan West.
