The season will start on Saturday, March 18 and last 12 weeks, closing Monday, June 12.
The bagging limit will remain at 10 birds per person per day.
But hunting of the Blue-winged Shoveler will be prohibited because of low numbers.
The state government said these provisions reflected the advice of the Game Management Authority, based on habitat and waterbird surveys conducted throughout eastern Australia.
These surveys found the winter rainfall had resulted in a significant increase in waterbird breeding, and extensive and widespread habitat availability.
“Duck season is a customary trip away for many families and is an important economic contributor to the rural economy, bringing 26,000 licensed duck hunters to small towns and regional centres across the state,” Agriculture Minister Jaala Pulford said.
The GMA and other enforcement agencies, including the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources, Parks Victoria and Victoria Police will be out enforcing compliance with hunting and public safety laws.
The GMA will monitor conditions in the lead-up and during the season.
Wetlands may be closed to hunting on the advice of the GMA to protect significant concentrations of endangered waterbirds.
Updated information on the season will be provided on the GMA website.
