Zahra won back-to-back races on Chase The Horizon and Schneller, while Lane scored on Want To Rock in race three and Grande Rosso in race nine.
Zahra couldn’t have ridden Chase The Horizon ($2.10) any better in his win in the TCL TV Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m). He lobbed one out, two back off a hot speed and sprinted hard in the final 200m to hold out second favourite Duibio, which made plenty of late ground from the rear of the field.
Zahra had to use all his strength and guile to get Schneller over the line in the first leg of the quaddie.
Schneller and Chamois Road led and cleared out from their rivals in the home straight. Chamois Road kept kicking on the fence, but Zahra and Schneller were in front when it mattered most.
Lane and the Matthew Ellerton/Simon Zahra-trained Want To Rock scored one of the more impressive wins of the day in race three.
The three-year-old gelding showed a great turn of foot to come from midfield to win his first race since winning on debut at Flemington last January.
Lane added the second leg of his double late in the day when Grande Rosso won at his first start for the David Hayes yard.
Previously trained by Wez Hunter, Grande Rosso returned to his best form in winning the Symes Motors BMW Handicap (1400m) from a gallant Streetwise Savoire and Turfane.
Lane is in hot form, having ridden a double in Group races at Moonee Valley last Saturday.
