Gary Stephen Salvaggio, 33, appeared at the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court today after being taken into custody on Monday.
The five charges include trespass, sexual assault and unlawful assault.
The alleged assault took place about 10pm on October 13.
It is alleged Mr Salvaggio entered the property with intent to assault a female occupant of the residence whom he knew to be present, before attempting to force her to take part in a sexual act without her consent and sexually assaulting her.
He faced an out-of-sessions remand hearing on Monday before appearing in person today, after an attempted video link was abandoned due to a technical error.
Flanked by police custody officers and wearing a grey T-shirt, he sat quietly in the dock throughout the proceedings, which were not attended by any members of the public.
Duty solicitor Robert Timms, appearing for the accused, noted Mr Salvaggio had no prior criminal history and that it was his first time in police custody.
Mr Salvaggio did not apply for bail and magistrate Catherine Lamble ordered him to be further remanded in custody to return to court for a committal mention on February 1, 2017.
