In his first season as coach, Primmer last month guided the Dragons to their first senior flag since 2004 with a 32-point win over Golden Square, 12.18 (90) to 8.10 (58).
However, after weighing up whether he would continue in the role next season, Primmer has re-committed for 2017.
“I always wanted to do the job again, but there were some other issues outside of footy in terms of work that I had to tie it in with,” Primmer said on Wednesday.
“And there were a few (family) things I needed to work through because when I took the job on last year a couple of things have changed, but that’s been sorted through and I’ll be doing it again next year.”
The Dragons are currently going through their exit interviews, and while Primmer says some change is inevitable as with every club, he expects the bulk of the premiership team to be back again next year.
Primmer says he’s “reasonably confident” Kristan Height will be back for a second season next year.
Height will need a bigger trophy cabinet after a 2016 season in which he won a premiership medal, Michelsen Medal, Nalder Medal, Sandhurst best and fairest and Dragons’ leading goalkicker award.
“I know how the system works in that we’ll lose some players and a bit will depend on university and things like that, but the feeling I’m getting is that the majority of the players will return next year,” Primmer said.
Primmer expects the Dragons will return to the training track for the start of pre-season on Monday, November 21.
