The famed children’s author was born in Wales in 1916. He is famous for books including The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and The Witches.
Goldfields Library and Star Cinema have both planned events to celebrate 100 years of Roald Dahl.
Star Cinema is hosting Roald Gold from September 23 to 26.
The mini-festival features films based on Dahl’s books Matilda, The Witches, Fantastic Mr Fox and The BFG.
They will also screen 36 Hours. The PG film is one for the adults and is based on Dahl’s story Beware of the Dog.
It stars James Garner and Eva Marie Saint and follows a group of Germans who kidnap an American major and try to convince him that World War II is over.
Goldsfields Library will feature a Revolting Rhymes Story Theatre on September 20 at 11am.
Goldfields Library Corporation programs and events coordinator Tammy Higgs said Dahl is a storytelling legend.
“His fabulous stories have been so well loved for several generations and will continue to be so for many more,” she said.
“They are consistently among the highest number of loans in our junior fiction collections.
“There is such a lot to celebrate about 100 years of Roald Dahl.”
Kangaroo Flat, Woodend and Romsey libraries will also host Big BFG Fun sessions with readings, trivia and art workshops where children can create their own dreamcatchers.
Goldfields Library has also hidden Golden Tickets in junior fiction books.
Children who find the tickets will win a pass to Star Cinema’s Roald Gold event.
